OCEANPORT, N.J. - Presidentialaffair smashed a Monmouth Park record that had stood since 1978 with a front-running romp in the slop in Monday's $70,000 Skip Away Stakes.

Presidentialaffair ran the mile and 70 yards in 1:38.85, erasing the mark of 1:39.20 first set by Razzle Dazzle Rey 26 years ago. Three others equaled the record, most recently Grecian Flight in 1989.

Presidentialaffair ($6.40) was in command throughout the race, as he broke a string of three straight seconds. Stewart Elliott was aboard for Philadelphia Park-based trainer Martin Ciresa.

"He was pretty comfortable the whole way," said Elliott. "He just cruised around there. I didn't have to ask him at all."

Presidentialaffair improved his record to two wins in four starts on wet tracks.

"He likes the slop a lot," said Ciresa. "We just wanted him to run at his own pace today. He had been getting out on the turns lately, but he trained extremely well."

Presidentialaffair finished 7 3/4 lengths in front of Donald's Pride with Regal Sanction third.

* In the $60,000 Little Silver Stakes, Capeside Lady won by 13 1/2 lengths over Really American.

Originally set for 1 1/16 miles on the turf with eight runners, the Little Silver was scratched down to a six-horse field of 3-year-old fillies on the sloppy main track.

Capeside Lady ($5) finished in 1:42.27.
