'Tornado' takes Moulin

Nebraska Tornado booked a ticket to the Breeders' Cup Mile with her victory Sunday in the Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over a field of top-class milers.

A 3-year-old Storm Cat filly trained by Andre Fabre, Nebraska Tornado added the prestigious Group 1 mile to her June victory in the 1 5/16-mile Prix de Diane, or French Oaks. Fabre has always maintained that a mile is the best distance for Nebraska Tornado despite her sixth-place finish in last month's Prix Jacque le Marois.

On Sunday, Domedriver, the narrow Marois runner-up and defending Breeders' Cup Mile champ, was only seventh. Blocked into the stretch, he escaped too late to make an impression. The 14-1 Nebraska Tornado tracked the leader and led at the eighth pole to defeat Japanese invader Lohengrin by a half-length.

Bright Sky, winner of the Prix d'Astarte, was third and will go next in the Prix de l'Opera, but plans for 2000 Guineas winner Refuse to Bend, who weakened to 11th, are on hold.
