Top Seed delivers for Trombetta

Trainer Michael Trombetta won juvenile stakes Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs and Laurel Park, scoring with Top Seed in the Inaugural and Peace Town in the Maryland Juvenile Championship.

At Tampa Bay, heavily favored Top Seed drove to the lead inside the final furlong and had enough left to hold back a furious late charge from R Brown Sugar for a one-length victory in the $65,000 Inaugural Stakes before 4,839 fans.

Ridden by Eibar Coa, Top Seed ($3.80) covered the six furlongs in a quick 1:10.91 to win his third straight. Miles and Miles was almost four lengths farther back in third.

Dr. Zic ($7.20) made every pole a winning one in the $65,000 Sandpiper Stakes for 2-year-old fillies. Trained by Joan Scott, she remained undefeated in two starts with a 1 3/4-length victory over favored Sunday in Malibu. Hooh Why ran third, a length back of Sunday in Malibu.

Dr. Zic, a daughter of Milwaukee Brew, covered the six furlongs in 1:10.77 under Daniel Centeno.
