Top Parx honor goes to Wink At the Girls


Wink At the Girls was named horse of the year at the Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Associaton’s dinner Thursday night honoring Parx Racing’s best horses and horsemen for 2010.

As a 5-year-old gelding, Wink At the Girls was claimed for $25,000 in January 2010 and went on to win 6 of 14 starts and $209,410 for owner Richard Malouf and trainer Scott Lake. Wink At the Girls finished the year beating third-level allowance runners in November before he was claimed away for $40,000 in January 2011.

Wink At the Girls was also recognized as top older male, best claim of the year, and the winningest horse on the grounds with 7 wins in 16 starts overall.

Other horses honored as best in their class were Der Meister, 2-year-old male; Dixie City, 2-year-old filly; Roadhog, 3-year-old male; Come Sunday, 3-year-old filly; Jemilyn, older female; and Wild Geese, claiming horse of the year.

Kendrick Carmouche finished as Parx’s top jockey for the third straight year. Phil Aristone was the leading trainer and Jack Armstrong the top owner. Rosario Montanez was the leading apprentice rider.

Among those who started fewer than 150 horses, Butch Reid posted the highest percentage among trainers and Jamie Guerrero was the top owner.
