Top Notch Lady victorious in Glorious Song

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Top Notch Lady, benefiting from a hotly contested pace, rallied smartly into the home lane and was up in time for a neck victory in Sunday's $146,575 Glorious Song Stakes here at Woodbine.

Angel On Watch, prominent throughout as the 4-1 second choice, ran well but had to settle for second, a neck to the good of odds-on favorite Gumboots, who also battled for the lead from the outset.

Top Notch Lady, ridden by Ray Sabourin, was recording her third victory while becoming a stakes winner in the seven-furlong Glorious Song, an open race for 2-year-old fillies.

"Going down the backside I was pretty confident," said Sabourin. "She was running along easy, and they were battling up front."

Sudsy Baby finished fourth in the field of eight. Perigee Girl ended seventh after stumbling badly entering the far turn and was moved up a spot after Like A Gem, the fifth-place finisher, was adjudged to be guilty of interference.

Like A Gem was placed seventh.

Top Notch Lady returned $37.50 and combined with Angel On Watch for a $252.00 exactor. The triactor came back at $591.50 and the superfecta paid $1,271.70 for a $1 wager.

Top Notch Lady, a Kentucky-bred owned by Robert Wilson and trained by Mark Casse, was timed in 1:23.86 and earned $83,925 to bring her career bankroll to $260,458 from six starts.
