Toolengthsoflite goes for five in row

Toolengthsoflite, unbeaten in four starts this season, heads a full field of 12 sprinters in Friday night's $60,000 Need for Speed Stakes at Evangeline Downs.

Toolengthsoflite, trained by Ronnie Averett, comes into Friday's five-furlong sprint off a 4 3/4-length allowance score at Delta Downs, a race in which he produced a career-best 95 Beyer Speed Figure. The 5-year-old Toolengthsoflite, who will break from the rail, is also a three-time winner locally from six starts. Regular rider Don Simington will again be in the saddle.

No stakes in the region these days is complete, it seems, without a representative from the Steve Asmussen barn, and he has the uncoupled entry of Tricky Mon and Unbridled Trust lined up for the Need for Speed.

Tricky Mon will break from post 4 with Brian Hernandez following a nose victory in an optional claiming sprint at Oaklawn Park in late March. A late-running son of 2001 Derby winner Monarchos, Tricky Mon is 2 for 3 this year and could benefit from the abundance of early pace in the Need for Speed.

Unbridled Trust, unplaced in his last two races at Sunland Park, will attempt to recapture the ability that saw him post consecutive allowance wins at Monmouth Park last season in front-running fashion. Asmussen has given the call to Donnie Meche.
