Tonight Rainbow in familiar spot

For the seventh consecutive year, Tonight Rainbow will begin his season at Fonner Park. And for the sixth straight year, his season debut will be in the $10,000 Grasmick Stakes, a race he was won three of the last four years.

Tonight Rainbow, 9, will face five others in the four-furlong Grasmick as he guns for a third straight victory in this race.

Two horses have won the Grasmick three consecutive years: the mare Bold Accent in 1970-72 and Leaping Plum, who won the race seven straight years from 1995-2001.

Tonight Rainbow's eight stakes wins at Fonner place him third on the all-time list behind only Leaping Plum (15 stakes wins) and Bold Accent (9).

A career winner of more than $270,000, Tonight Rainbow has earned $124,060 at Fonner, compiling a record of 11-1-4 from 21 starts here. Trainer Boyd Caster will van Tonight Rainbow up from his base at Will Rogers Downs, and Yuri Yaranga is set to ride. Yaranga arrived in Nebraska from his winter base in Ohio this week.

Apache General - second, beaten by a head in $15,000 claiming company last Friday - should benefit from having that recent race under his belt. Trainer Temple Rushton named Don Frazier to ride.

D D Dot Comm and Cosgrove both wheel back off of races last weekend. Did and First Class Brass will be making their first start of the season.
