Tom's Ready, winner of the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes, will stand at Spendthrift Farm in 2018.

Tom’s Ready, a Grade 2 winner, has been retired from racing, and will stand at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., for the 2018 breeding season.

The 4-year-old More Than Ready colt will stand for an advertised fee of $7,500 on a one-year commitment through the farm’s Share the Upside program, or for $6,000 under a standard “stands and nurses” agreement.

“We are excited to offer Tom’s Ready to breeders through our Share the Upside program in 2018,” Spendthrift general manager Ned Toffey said. “More Than Ready is emerging as a promising sire of sires, and Tom’s Ready has tremendous looks and a millionaire’s race record. There’s a lot to like, and we believe breeders will see him as a great opportunity. Tom’s Ready has arrived at the farm, and we invite people to come out and see him.”

Tom’s Ready won 5 of 21 starts during his ontrack career for earnings of $1,036,267, highlighted by scores in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes as well as the Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap and Ack Ack Stakes.

His five additional graded stakes placings include the Grade 1 Forego Stakes and the Grade 2 Louisiana Derby. He was 12th in the 2016 Kentucky Derby.

Dallas Stewart trained Tom’s Ready for the Benson family’s GMB Racing.

Bred in Pennsylvania by Blackstone Farm, Tom’s Ready is out of the placed Broad Brush mare Goodbye Stranger, whose four winners from five runners includes stakes-placed Consulado, also by More Than Ready. Italian Group 2 winners Vers La Caisse and High Competence are in the extended family.
