Toccet to start therapy

Toccet, who has been out of serious training in recent weeks following his victory in the Hollywood Futurity, will start exercise on an aqua treadmill beginning Friday and then will go into serious training about 10 days later, owner Dan Borislow said Wednesday.

According to Borislow, Toccet was examined at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center this past week. Borislow has said that if everything goes perfectly, Toccet will have two preps before the Kentucky Derby.

"He is done with X-rays and bone scans, and we are comfortable with the schedule set out for him," Borislow said. "He basically had a case of the 2-year-olds that time heals, a combination of fast growth and remodeled ankles.

"The first week of training should tell us everything."

Borislow said it would be known by "no later than the end of February" if Toccet could make the Kentucky Derby on May 3.

Toccet, who is stabled at Laurel with trainer John Scanlan, was one of the nation's leading 2-year-olds last year. In addition to the Hollywood Futurity, he won the Champagne Stakes, Laurel Futurity, and Remsen Stakes. He has won six out of his eight starts.
