ELMONT, N.Y. – Tizway, who missed last Saturday’s Jockey Club Gold Cup after running a fever nine days before the race, worked six furlongs in 1:14.33 Tuesday morning over a muddy and sealed Oklahoma training track at Saratoga.

Tizway, working with blinkers back on, broke from the five-furlong pole under exercise rider Andreas Catalano. He was timed in fractions of 25.40 for the opening quarter-mile, 37.60 for three furlongs, and 1:01.60 for five furlongs. It was the second work back for the Met Mile and Whitney winner, who went five furlongs in 1:01.44 seconds without blinkers last Tuesday.

“He worked great, went out in the last set because there was still some moisture in the track,” said trainer Jim Bond. “He galloped out seven furlongs in 1:28 and a mile in 1:43 and change. Put the feed tub in afterward and he jumped right in. That’s what I like to see. Everything looks good.”

Tizway, whose sire, Tiznow, won back-to-back runnings of the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2000-01, is training up to a highly anticipated showdown with Flat Out, Havre de Grace, and Uncle Mo in the Classic at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5, which is to be his final start before he goes to stud at Spendthrift Farm.
