Tiznow colt tops Midlantic sale

Fasig-Tipton Midlantic's "extra" sale on Tuesday, a one-day juvenile and horses of racing age auction, new this year, ended with a $74,000 top price and a 33 percent buyback rate.

EQB Inc. purchased the sale-topper, Hip No. 75, a Tiznow colt out of Grade 3 winner Scratch Paper, by Notebook. Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree agency consigned the colt, a half-brother to the winning filly Our Nancy Lee and the winning colt Scratch Off.

Fifty-seven lots were sold at the session for a total $811,100, an average of $14,230 and a $10,000 median. But 28 horses offered failed to reach their reserves.

Four lots brought $50,000 or more. Others besides the sale-topper were: Hip No. 28, a $60,000 Bernstein colt out of the Halo mare Flora's Temple that Ken and Sarah Ramsey bought from Randy Miles, agent; Hip No. 25, a $54,000 Lost Soldier colt out of the Festive mare Festive Scout that Hank Bird's Steephollow Farms agency sold to Richard Lull, acting on behalf of Mike Cloonan; and Hip No. 73, a $50,000 Indian Charlie colt out of Sassy Alex, by Sunny's Halo, that Casey Family Farms purchased from the Safari Bloodstock agency.
