Tipsy Tea wins Enchantress Stakes

Tipsy Tea wins the Enchantress Stakes by 1 1/4 lengths Wednesday.

Tipsy Tea closed from last for a 1 1/4-length win over Kimbell in the $85,000 Enchantress on Wednesday at Sunland Park. The one-mile race was restricted to 3-year-old fillies bred in New Mexico.

Also on the card, Dad, a 3-year-old son of Peppers Pride, won a maiden special weight at a mile. He proved a 1 1/4 lengths best and paid $2.60. Peppers Pride is a New Mexico-bred millionaire who retired 19 for 19. Dad is by Malibu Moon.

Tipsy Tea ($4) was content to let the pace go in the Enchantress, with Love Bug Who taking the field through fractions of 23.40 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.20 for the half-mile. Tipsy Tea advanced, overtook her rivals through the stretch, and covered the distance on a fast track in 1:38.13.

Roimes Chirinos was aboard for the partnership of Harry and Larry R. Teague and trainer Weston Martin. Tipsy Tea is a daughter of Seeking the Cat who was bred by Larry R. Teague.
