Tioga: Sunday 7/15 Analysis

Email

MEET STATS: 35 - 118 / $206.10

Best Bet: STONEBRIDGE ROCKET (9th)     Spot Play: WESTERN SLAMMER (7th)

Race 1

(2) CIANO MAN won at 12-1 in a similar spot two starts back. He had no chance last week. (1) WAR AND PEACE is clearly sharp now; trip did him in last week. (5) SQUARE JOHN has some early speed; hangs around for trifecta.

Race 2

(4) CHACO HANOVER was a decent second last week and this $4k claimer came up light. (2) BIG GUS ships in off a break at Pocono. I don’t love his chances, but that speaks volumes of today’s competition. (1) JOHNNY GRIPPA is probably the one to beat if he is right, but the long layoff and scratched-sick line leaves many questions.

Race 3

(7) OPAN HEART lost by 17 lengths last week but that was in a 1:51 mile. He stands out in this field despite the outside draw and should bring a big effort. (4) DUTCHTREAT HANOVER drops in for a tag and has some early speed. (2) JOVIAL JESTER N has proven he can play with these but remains 0 for 17 this year.

Race 4

(4) NO SWEET STUFF makes his pari-mutuel debut against some older foes today. Notice he was entered in an Ontario Sire Stakes race and that he goes from an inexperienced driver to Bier today. He seems worth a shot against a field lacking a ton of talent. (6) STIRLING BRIGADE aimed high in his first career try; big chance. (1) MIKES BOY might be the favorite but is 0 for 15 lifetime.

Race 5

(8) MARTINO arrives for a top barn and has the speed to overcome the bad draw. (3) MR HOBBS is better than his recent lines show. Also notice the 4 for 13 record by trainer Santo Zuzolo here. (2) SMALL BILLS adds hobbles and a catch-driver; interesting. (4) SYRFACE TENSION has ability; hard to figure.

Race 6

(3) QUIK CHANGE ARTIST gets class and post relief, plus a nice driver change, too. He doesn’t look great on paper but could easily step up. (4) MATTOUTFLYING couldn’t handle the uncovered trip last week; second chances. (8) SUNNY SARAH was a winner when last seen at this level and trainer Watts calls on a catch-driver to get the money. (6) MAKE IT SWEET is an interesting shipper.

Race 7

(6) WESTERN SLAMMER hasn’t had the chance to stretch his legs since arriving here. This looks like the perfect spot to find that early speed he showed on 5 /29 at Pocono. (3) VITAL SPEED is at the proper level. (1) TWIN B MY WAY only needs to stay closer to the action to have a big shot.

Race 8

(6) TATTLE TELL TEEN won when last seen here and doesn’t find a very tough spot today. (3) SPEED ADDICTION won two starts back and should bring a decent effort. (1) ALEX SHREDDER moves into a new barn.

Race 9

(1) STONEBRIDGE ROCKET ships in from Yonkers and stands out as the one to beat. He has speed from the cones and should be a chalky winner. (2) DVC GIVEMEATTITUDE is another coming in from another location. This gelding from Pocono has some credentials. (8) THAT’S JUSTICE is coming off a nice mile.

Race 10

This is a very competitive open. (6) TACS DELIGHT might be coming off a long break but seems to be the fastest. I’ll always give the Allard barn the benefit of the doubt. (4) SPICE IT UP LINDY has won the Open in his previous two trips here. (1) DON’T KNOW CHIP & (2) THE EVICTOR are two more with recent success in the Opens. Either could score with a decent journey.

Race 11

(6) WHOGOESFIRST & (7) EASTEND EDDIE are both in raging form and have high early speed. They should sit one-two and finish at least in the top three if not first and second. (5) BIG BAM RAY is scary coming off that 1:49 4/5 mile, but he has no speed and will have the hope for a clean trip.

Race 12

(2) STIR ME UP was a different horse in his first qualifier for Tyler Raymer. The Raymer barn really knows how to handle trotters. (4) TO CASH A TUNE is certainly sharp. (8) SOS BREEZER is another Allard shipper; see how others do before considering this guy.

Race 13

(2) CHEYENNE KNIGHT gets some needed class relief and should perk up. (4) DIAMOND STAR dropped to this level and was a little better last time. He could make an easier lead this week. (8) SAND SAVAGE & (9) KEYSTONE RIDEAU are two logical players which have drawn poorly.
