Timonium starts meet with 11 races

Timonium racetrack at the Maryland State Fair in Timonium, Md., will open an eight-day live meet Saturday with an 11-race card that begins at 1 p.m. Eastern.

The Timonium meet follows an abbreviated nine-day meet at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, and will precede the opening of Laurel Park's long fall-winter meet on Sept. 7.

Nine races will be held each live racing day on Timonium's five-eighth-mile track, with the exception of the opening-day card and 10-race cards next Saturday and on Labor Day. Post time is 1 p.m. Eastern each day. Dark days are Monday and Tuesday.

Two $50,000 stakes for Maryland-breds will be run over Labor Day weekend. The Alma North, for fillies and mares, will be held Sept. 3, and the Taking Risks, for 3-year-olds and up, will be held on Sept. 5.

Admission to the track is included with the $6 admission fee to the fair. Full-card simulcasting will be offered every day at the track, including dark days.
