Timboruck gets nod in feature

CALGARY, Alberta - Timboruck, a close second in the Stampede Park Sprint Championship last time out, is the one to beat in the $18,800 allowance/optional claimer that serves as Friday's feature.

T J Quigley, 2 for 2 here this spring including a May 11 win in a similar six-furlong dash, is the main threat in the field of five.

Timboruck will break from the inside under Rickey Walcott while T J Quigley begins from post 4 under the meet's leading rider, Richard Hamel.

Rounding out the small but talented lineup will be Shady Remark, Tyko Tycoon, and Young Runaway.

Memorable Tecate

Last Monday's Ken Pearson Memorial went to Tecate in a stirring stretch duel in which five runners were separated by less than a length at the finish of the one-mile handicap.

The winner, with Hamel aboard, got through along the rail turning for home to close from fifth place a furlong out and nail pacesetting stablemate Uncas Ruckus in the final jump.

Tecate's winning margin was a head with Regal Eyre a neck behind Uncas Ruckus in third, the favored Crimson Hue a head behind Regal Eyre in fourth, and Golden Remark another neck back in fifth.

It was the best finish of the meet and Hamel had the best trip while posting a $21.30 upset.

"It opened up for me at the perfect time," said Hamel.
