Tiger Ridge colt tops sale

A colt from the first crop of Tiger Ridge sold for $650,000 on Wednesday at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's March 2-year-olds in training sale, topping the two-day sale of 245 juveniles.

The colt, named Notable Tiger, was purchased by John Ferguson, an agent for Sheikh Mohammed al Maktoum. Notable Tiger was consigned by Dean DeRenzo and Randy Hartley, who purchased the colt last August at an OBS yearling sale for $21,000.

Notable Tiger, out of the What a Pleasure mare Notable Girl, worked an eighth of a mile at a March 7 under-tack show in 10.40 seconds, one of the faster workouts of the day.

The sale was held Tuesday and Wednesday at the OBS sales grounds in Ocala, Fla. Gross receipts were $22,563,000, up 24 percent compared to last year, when 273 horses were sold. Average was $92,064, up 38 percent compared to 2003's sale.

The top-selling filly, a daughter of first-crop sire Yankee Victor, was sold for $575,000 on the first day of the sale. She was purchased by Narvick International from the consignment of Niall Brennan, who was acting as an agent.

Three horses sold for more than $400,000 on Wednesday, including a Yankee Victor colt out of Mesmerized, by Dehere, for $450,000; a Yes It's True colt out of Proud Ciel, by Septieme Ciel, for $450,000; and a Gold Case filly out of Magical Thinking, by Pirate's Bounty, for $425,000.
