TIEA nomination deadline approaching


The nomination deadline for the second North American edition of the Thoroughbred Industry Employee Awards is approaching, with the nominations closing Aug. 1 at 5 p.m. Eastern.

The awards, presented by Godolphin and supported by the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, The Jockey Club and The National HPBA, carry a total prize pool of $128,000, with both the category winners and their employers benefitting from a win. The awards are divided into six categories, with four specific to breeding and racing. Category winners will receive $10,000 along with another $5,000 to be shared among their co-workers. Two runners-up will also receive $2,500, with another $2,500 shared. The Newcomer Award, which is new for 2017, will reward the winner with $5,000 and a trip to Dubai, with $2,000 to share among co-workers; runners-up receive $2,000, with $1,000 shared). The sixth category, the Community Award, rewards one winner with $10,000 and another $5,000 to be given to the winner’s designated charity.

Nominations for the awards can be made by anyone within the industry, from any part of the United States. Winners will be announced at an awards ceremony at Keeneland on Friday, Oct. 13.
