Tidal Pool adds depth to Lukas talent pool

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Trainer D. Wayne Lukas picked up a nice problem after the second race was run Thursday at Oaklawn Park: Having to separate a pair of quality 3-year-old fillies.

Tidal Pool became his second 3-year-old filly winner in less than a week when she dominated older rivals by eight lengths in a second-level allowance.

"And it was an awful good time, too," said Lukas.

Tidal Pool covered the mile in 1:36.58, which was one of the best times for the distance this meet at Oaklawn.

Lukas sent out Decelerator to a length score in the $75,000 Martha Washington at Oaklawn on Feb. 13. Lukas said she is being pointed for the Grade 3, $100,000 Honeybee here March 13.

As for Tidal Pool, she might be headed to New Orleans.

"We'll look at the Fair Grounds Oaks," Lukas said of the Grade 2, $400,000 race scheduled for March 26.

Tidal Pool was ridden Thursday by Corey Nakatani. Terry Thompson is the regular rider on Decelerator. Both horses race for Westrock Stables.

Just Jenda breezes at Oaklawn

Just Jenda, a multiple Grade 3 winner of close to $500,000, moved a step closer to her first start of the year Friday, when she breezed five furlongs in an easy 1:03.40 at Oaklawn. She last raced in October.

Trainer Cindy Jones said the spring goal for Just Jenda is the Grade 1 Apple Blossom Invitational at Oaklawn on April 9.

* Jockey Abel Castellano Jr. won four races Thursday at Oaklawn. He is the fourth leading rider at the meet.
