LEXINGTON, Ky. - Thunderello, runner-up in the Breeders' Cup Sprint, has retired from racing and will join the stallion roster at Doug Arnold's Buck Pond Farm in Versailles, Ky. Thunderello will stand for $5,000.

A 3-year-old Montbrook colt, Thunderello is expected at Buck Pond within the next week to 10 days. Arnold said that plans call for Thunderello to stand as the property of Charles Mady, who raced the colt.

Thunderello retires with a career record of 7-3-3-0 and total earnings of $388,400. Trained by Scott Lake, the Florida-bred colt finished second to Mayakovsky in his debut last year, then followed that up with a win over maiden special weight company. This year, his two victories included a 1 1/2-length victory in the Gallant Bob Handicap immediately before his second-place finish behind probable sprint champion Orientate in the Breeders' Cup. Thunderello last ran in the Nov. 16 Frank De Francis Dash, in which he was injured.

Thunderello is a son of On the Square, a daughter of In Reality who also produced the stakes winners Square Up the Bet and Ms. Deep Pockets.
