Three horses hit wire at same time

A rare triple dead heat for first-place occurred in a 350-yard Quarter Horse race at Los Alamitos on Friday.

Reaching the finish simultaneously in the allowance race for 2-year-olds were the No. 5 horse, Frankie Shoots ($2.80); No. 2, Nofishinonafullmoon ($2.80); and No. 1, Voodoo Chilly ($4.60).

Because of the triple dead heat, there were six $1 exacta payoffs, ranging in value from $2.70 to $6.20 and six $1 trifecta payoffs, ranging from $14.20 to $43.80.

The triple dead heat was the first at Los Alamitos since three harness horses finished on even terms in Jan. 12, 1996 and the first in a Quarter Horse race since July 23, 1981.

The last triple dead heat in a Thoroughbred race in Southern California occurred at Hollywood Park in December 1997.
