Three-horse rematch in Summer Finale

Beautiful Venue, Afleet Angel, and Water Gap, who ran one-two-three in the West Virginia Senate President's Breeders' Cup Stakes at Mountaineer Park on Aug. 4, will meet again - along with nine others - in Monday's $75,000 Summer Finale Handicap at Mountaineer.

The turf race for fillies and mares will be run at the same mile and 70-yard distance of the West Virginia Senate President's BC.

Last time, Beautiful Venue, 7-2 on the board, edged away from the 3-1 Afleet Angel in deep stretch after a long duel up front and won by 1 1/4 lengths in track-record time of 1:43. Water Gap, 5-2, lagged far back early, circled five wide on the turn, and closed fast, beaten by another length.

Beautiful Venue picks up eight pounds to 113 on Monday, while Afleet Angel and Water Gap stay at 109 and 118, respectively.

Separating them isn't easy, but on consistency Beautiful Venue, with a record of 3-2-1 in 9 starts this year, and Afleet Angel, 2-2-0 in 5 races, are slightly more reliable than Water Gap, 1-1-2 out of 5.

Dinner at Arlene's ships in from Arlington Park for trainer Rebecca Maker, who is 1-3-1 with 5 starters at the Mountaineer meet. Dinner at Arlene's, 5, will be making only her 15th start and only second on turf - and, sired by Forestry, she is bred for grass. She also looks like the speed of the race.

The other key newcomer is Unplugged, a 5-year-old in from Kentucky for trainer Paul McClelland. Unplugged arrives with a stellar season record of 6-4-1 in 13 starts, counting a win last out in the $96,000 Claiming Crown Tiara at Ellis Park on Aug. 4.
