Thompson has six-win night again

ANDERSON, Ind. - Jockey Terry Thompson equaled his career best and a Hoosier Park record with six wins Saturday night, a feat he also accomplished on the previous Saturday card.

Thompson, opened with both ends of the daily double aboard Pineingmyheartaway ($5.20) and War's Last Secret ($5) for a $13.80 double. He followed up with wins aboard Danceforjove ($7) in the fourth, Beyers Fortune ($13.20) in the seventh, Go to Harvard ($4.20) in the ninth, and Stephie's Gold ($4.40) in the 11th.

His six wins in eight mounts tied the track record of six wins on a card. Jon Court accomplished the feat twice in 1998 and Mike Morgan once in 1999. Thompson has been on fire this week, registering a four-bagger on Wednesday night and three-win nights on both Thursday and Friday. His 16 wins this week boost him to a 65-27 lead over Cindy Noll in the rider standings at the halfway point of the season.

Thompson captured last year's riding title with 76 wins, a mark easily in reach in the following days.

Trainer Michael Mann also equaled a record Saturday night with three wins from three starters, all of which he bred and owns. Mann saddled Pineingmyheartaway and Stepie's Gold with Thompson aboard. He also sent out Lace and Lightning ($3) under Dale Baze in the 10th to sweep the three Indiana-bred races on the card Saturday. Mann joins a list of six other trainers to send out three winners on a card, the most recent of whom was Stanley Roberts last year.
