Thistledown track report

The 2005 Randall Meet, the third of four meetings held here each year, ended last Saturday with jockey Scott Spieth and trainer Rodney Faulkner taking titles in their respective categories for the second meet in a row.

Spieth concluded the meet with 55 wins from 224 starts, beating Luis Gonzalez, who had 42 wins. The Randall meet is Spieth's eighth local meet title.

"It's been a good meet. Everything fell into place," said Spieth.

Only four wins separated Rodney Faulkner from his father, Joe, in the trainer's category. Rodney prevailed with 28 wins from 157 starts, and Joe was second with 24 wins. This was Rodney Faulkner's sixth local meet title. Joe Faulkner was the winningest owner with 24 wins.

* Thistledown trainers did very well in the Best of Ohio Series at Beulah Park last Saturday. Trainer Miguel Feliciano won the $60,000 Juvenile with Dinner Choice, who was ridden by Feliciano's nephew Ricardo Feliciano. These two have teamed to win six stakes this year.

Tim Hamm took the $75,000 Endurance with Ready for Roses, who was ridden by Irwin Rosendo. The win was Hamm's fourth in the Best of Ohio series.

Owner, trainer, and breeder W. John Bourke pulled off a huge upset in the $60,000 John W. Galbreath Memorial with the 2-year-old filly Cryptoville, who put on a powerful stretch run to catch the undefeated Lillians Choice at the wire. The victory was the first for Cryptoville, who finished third in her career debut. She paid $33.
