Thistledown: Sneak a Cold Treat seeks three-peat in Honey Jay

Email

Trainer Jeff Radosevich holds a strong hand as he sends out three of his top horses in Saturday’s 25th running of the $50,000, six-furlong Honey Jay Stakes for registered Ohio foals at Thistledown.

Sneak a Cold Treat, winner of this race in 2010 and 2011, tops the field of 11 with his stablemate Klassy Korbin. Both are owned by Luch Racing Stable.

Radosevich will also saddle the consistent Raise the Reward, who has finished no worse than second from six starts since being claimed last March for owner Michael J. Annechino.

Sneak a Cold Treat closed his 2011 campaign winning the Best of Ohio Sprint, the Honey Jay, and an optional claiming race locally. After an eight-month layoff by Sneak a Cold Treat, trainer Jamie Ness dropped him in for a $30,000 tag at Delaware Park, where he was claimed by Brenda Rushing following a second-place finish. After one race for Rushing, an off-the-board finish also at Delaware, a private sale sent Sneak a Cold Treat full circle back to Thistledown. He excels at Thistledown, where he has posted a record of 11-5-3 from 22 starts, and will find himself battling for the lead as there is an abundance of speed in this race. Oswald Pereira will handle the riding assignment

When asked about his decision to race three of his top horses against each other, Radosevich said: “This wasn’t a hard decision. They are Ohio-breds and this is where the money is at. I am just trying to win a race.”

Raise the Reward has a win and three seconds at this distance and could benefit from a speed duel. He has the ability to close from off the pace under jockey Ernesto Oro.

Of the others, Almighty O looks ready for a stakes victory. Trained by William D. Cowans, he comes in off three straight optional-claiming wins, dominating the last two by 11 3/4 and 9 3/4 lengths at River Downs. Ben Creed travels to Thistledown to ride.
