Thistledown: Plenty of speed

NORTH RANDALL, Ohio - An expected speed duel in the $40,000 Miss Ohio Stakes may set up the race for the late-running Notyourrunofthemill. Ten Ohio-bred 2-year-old fillies run in the Miss Ohio, and all but two of them are stretching out to six furlongs for first time.

Orangeberry and Bolaro figure to battle for the early lead in the Miss Ohio. Orangeberry, a daughter of Cryptoclearance, went wire to wire to win her maiden by 12 3/4 lengths last time out, going 5 1/2 furlongs at River Downs. In her prior start, the Tah Dah Stakes at River Downs, trainer Luis Palacios treated Orangeberry with Lasix for the first time. She prompted the pace into the stretch and was beaten less than two lengths. A repeat of that effort could net her a front-running win.

Orangeberry carries 117 pounds Saturday and will be ridden by Hector Rosario Jr.

Bolaro won her last start in front-running fashion going 5 1/2 furlongs here. In her start before that, she was second in the Cleveland Kindergarten Stakes here after pressing the pace. Luis Gonzalez will ride at 117 for trainer Alan Sobol.

Notyourrunofthemill won her maiden last time out. In the 5 1/2-furlong Tah Dah she finished a fast-closing second and was beaten a neck. She carries 117 and Julio Felix will ride for trainer Timothy Hamm.
