Thistledown: Pay the Man wins Rose DeBartolo for fourth time


Pay the Man saved ground the entire trip under jockey Luis A. Gonzalez, made the lead just before the eighth pole, and drew off to a 3 1/4-length win in the 27th running of the $50,000 Rose DeBartolo Memorial Stakes at Thistledown on Saturday afternoon.

Muir Woods was second, 6 3/4 lengths ahead of Honey Be Fleet.

Pay the Man has won the Rose DeBartolo Memorial four times, missing by a neck last year to Slide's Choice, and with this victory has bumped her lifetime earnings to $749,526. She is owned by Pyrite Stables and trained by Miguel A. Feliciano. Now 7, Pay the Man ran the 1 1/8 miles in 1:52.16 and paid $2.80.
