Thistledown: Pay the Man seeks fourth straight in Rose DeBartolo

After being beaten in her seasonal debut, Pay the Man has won three straight races, including stakes in her last two starts. On Saturday, she heads a field of eight Ohio-bred fillies and mares in the $50,000 Rose DeBartolo Memorial Stakes at Thistledown.

Owned by Pyrite Stables and trained by Miguel Feliciano, Pay the Man was a six-length winner in her last start, the 1 1/16-mile William J. Petro Stakes here on June 18. In her prior start on May 30, she won the Angenora Stakes in similar fashion. Earlier this year she won an open handicap at Tampa Bay Downs. Luis Gonzalez, who has been aboard for her last three wins, will ride Pay the Man at 122 pounds in the 1 1/8-mile DeBartolo.

Indian Ink and Derby Day Storm, who ran one-two in the 1 1/16-mile Vivacious Stakes at River Downs on the turf, could offer a strong challenge.

Indian Ink closed from just off the pace to score a seven-length victory in the Aug. 6 Vivacious. She also won an allowance race on the turf from just off the pace at River Downs on July 16. Terry Houghton will ride for trainer Mike Rone.

Derby Day Storm flipped in the gate and finished fifth and last in an optional claiming race at River Downs on Aug. 21. Prior to that, she finished second to Indian Ink in the Vivacious after making the lead on the second turn. She won an allowance race going six furlongs at River on July 6. She will be ridden by Weldon Cloninger Jr.
