Theater R.N. wins Las Palmas Handicap

ARCADIA, Calif. - Theater R.N. won her stakes debut in Sunday's $150,000 , rallying from fifth in the final three furlongs to catch stablemate Lots of Hope in the final 30 yards.

The win gave trainer Bobby Frankel a 1-2 finish in the Grade 2 Las Palmas and a sweep of the weekend stakes at Santa Anita. Frankel won Saturday's Morvich Handicap with Leroidesanimaux.

Theater R.N. ($13.80) finished 1 1-8 miles on turf in 1:47.81, scoring by a half-length over Lots of Hope. Good Student, who disputed the pace early and led by as many as five lengths on the final turn, finished third. Good Student was the 2-1 favorite.

Theater R.N. was fifth early in the field of seven fillies and mares. Ridden by Rene Douglas, she stayed on the rail into the stretch, and rallied outside of Good Student and Lots of Hope to win. Lots of Hope led for a few strides in deep stretch and finished a half-length in front of Good Student.

Theater R.N. has won 4 of 6 starts and $181,600. Owned by Pegasus Thoroughbred Training Center, Theater R.N. has made only three starts this year, finishing fifth in an optional claimer at Santa Anita in January and winning an optional claimer at Del Mar on July 21 in her final start before Sunday's race.
