Teuflesberg moves to McMahon of Saratoga for stud duty

Teuflesberg, sire of recent Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Trinniberg, has been purchased by Joe McMahon of McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds and will stand at the Saratoga Springs, N.Y., farm for the 2013 breeding season. He is being re-syndicated and his stud fee will be announced later. An 8-year-old son of Johannesburg, Teuflesberg stood at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla., this year for a fee of $3,500.

Teuflesberg currently ranks 10th on the North American second-crop sire list, and is one of four second-crop sires to sire a Grade 1-winning 3-year-old, along with Hard Spun, Awesome Gambler, and Scat Daddy. Trinniberg has won five of 13 starts - including the Grade 2 Woody Stephens Stakes and two Grade 3 stakes - and earned $1,483,300.

Racing at ages 2 and 3, Teuflesberg won 5 of 21 starts and earned $621,981, highlighted by a victory in the 2007 Woody Stephens Stakes.

"We were fortunate to purchase this very desirable young stallion before Trinniberg's big win in the Breeders' Cup Sprint. That is great added value," McMahon said. "We've been trying to buy a horse like this for 30 years. He's undoubtedly the very best opportunity we've ever been able to offer New York breeders."
