Terry Thompson wins No. 2,000

Jockey Terry Thompson won the 2,000th race of his career Sunday at Oaklawn Park, when he guided Peace Pledge to a three-length victory in the fifth race. Thompson rode the mare, who paid $6, for trainer David Vance.

"A milestone like this is a step at a time, so my next objective is 2,500," said Thompson.

Thompson, a 35-year-old native of Omaha, Neb., won the first race of his career at Turfway Park on Jan. 9, 1993. He has career mount earnings of more than $34 million, with one of his biggest career wins coming aboard Island Sand in the Grade 1 Acorn at Belmont Park in 2004.

* The seven fillies in the first race Sunday finished in post position order, with High Heels, the 1-horse, winning the race by eight lengths over Grace Runner, the 2-horse. The odds of the field finishing 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 was 1 in 5,040, said Bobby Geiger, simulcast director at Oaklawn.
