The Terminator strikes again on DRFT

Tony Zhou, The Terminator, was at it again on DRF Tournaments this weekend. In a special holiday Monday contest on DRFT, Zhou won a seat to the The Stronach Group Ultimate Betting Challenge plus $500 in travel, a package worth $5,000.

He dominated the 28-player event, which cost $400 per entry, though many in the field won their way in via feeders. He had only three significant cashes, but those three were all nice prices: Sean’s Idea ($63.80 win-place combined) in Gulfstream’s ninth, Martini Glass ($24.40) in the Grade 3 Royal Delta at Gulfstream, and Darn That Parker ($27.60) in Gulfstream’s nightcap.

The second through fourth finishers all received site credit for their efforts: Paul Messell, Anthony “Doczilla” Trezza, and Thomas Labordo.

Also on Sunday, Vincent Achillare topped a field of 13 in a Grade 1 qualifier for the World Championship of Handicapping, winning his $5,000 seat. He achieved a score of $99, just over $10 clear of second. The key horses for him were also Sean’s Idea and Darn That Parker.

The second through fourth finishers – Joseph Celli, Ryan Mueller, and Joseph Faulk – got back site credit.

The WCH is DRF’s online championship event, with a $1 million purse (based on full participation of 200 entries) and no takeout. The inaugural version saw $555,000 distributed to players, who had the ability to play from the comfort of home.

The DRF Tournaments inventory is overflowing at the moment, with feeders and qualifiers scheduled for several tournaments, including NYRA’s Gotham Day event, a $500 live-bank contest at Aqueduct on March 10; the Horse Player World Series, a three-day mythical-money contest at the Orleans in Las Vegas March 8-10; and Keeneland’s prestigious Grade 1 Gamble, a $3,000 live-bankroll contest held on-site at Keeneland on Sunday, April 15.

Of course, there are also feeders and qualifiers scheduled for the Ultimate Betting Challenge, a $4,500 live-bank event held at Gulfstream and Santa Anita on Sunday, March 11, and the 2019 World Championship of Handicapping.
