Term Sheet wins Sprint Handicap

Term Sheet, who seems to be getting better with age, picked up his first stakes win Saturday night when he drew clear by three lengths over Agrivating General in the $50,000 Sprint Handicap at Sam Houston Race Park in Houston.

It was another length and a quarter back in third to Padlock.

Term Sheet, a 5-year-old who paid $5.60 as the favorite, assumed a stalking position early in the seven-furlong race, while Coldiron Slew set fractions of 22.34 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.04 for the half-mile. Term Sheet angled out in the stretch and rolled home, covering the distance over a fast track in 1:22.20.

"He ran a very good race tonight. It's the best race he's run so far for us," said Steve Asmussen, who trains Term Sheet for Ackerley Brothers Farm.

Glen Murphy rode the gelding, who earned $30,000 for the win, which was his sixth in 18 starts. Term Sheet, a son of Concern, now has career earnings of $156.190.

Earlier on the card, Sam Houston presented Asmussen with a basket of gifts for leading the nation's trainers in wins in 2002. Asmussen is the current leading trainer at Sam Houston.
