Stellar Wind, working toward the Breeders' Cup Distaff, shares a common ancestor with fellow Eclipse Award winner Tepin.

In terms of their racing accomplishments, turf specialist Tepin and main-track runner Stellar Wind don’t have much in common beyond their Eclipse Awards. But the two actually share a common ancestor in the influential broodmare Gallant Nurse.

Gallant Nurse, bred by Brookmeade Stable, was a daughter of War Admiral foaled in 1946. She was modestly successful both on the track and at the farm, winning once from 13 career starts and producing five winners from six starters, including three stakes-placed horses. But she has had a continued influence on the sport through the lines launched by her daughters and granddaughters, many producing prominent stakes horses.

Breeders’ Cup Mile entrant Tepin is out of the Stravinsky mare Life Happened, whose sixth dam is Gallant Nurse, via unraced daughter Noble Nurse. The branch of the family that produced Tepin is also represented by champion Smoke Glacken and Grade 3 winner and regional sire Disco Rico.

Breeders’ Cup Distaff entrant Stellar Wind, who is out of the late Malibu Moon mare Evening Star, is more closely related to Gallant Nurse. Gallant Nurse is the fourth dam of Evening Star, via her daughter Indian Nurse. Their branch of the family is responsible for Grade 1/Group 1 winners Mor Spirit, Great Hunter, Star of Cozzene, Matty G, Melodist, and Love Sign.
