The last time Cherokee's Boy ran on a bullring he was a 21 3/4-length winner. Trainer Gary Capuano is hoping that result means Cherokee's Boy will successfully handle the turns of the six-furlong track in Saturday night's $500,000 Delta Jackpot at Delta Downs in Vinton, La.

The one-mile race for 2-year-olds drew a field of 10 when entries were taken Wednesday.

Cherokee's Boy will break from the rail in the Delta Jackpot, which is one of the richest 2-year-old races of the year. Ryan Fogelsonger, the nation's leading apprentice by wins, has the mount on Cherokee's Boy for ZWP Stable. Other top contenders in the Delta Jackpot include Outta Here, third last time out in the Grade 3 Generous Stakes on the Hollywood Park turf, and Comic Truth, who won the $75,000 Jean Lafitte Futurity at Delta in his last start.

Cherokee's Boy's previous bullring experience may benefit him in the Delta Jackpot. In his lone appearance on a tighter oval, he rolled to an easy win over Charles Town's six-furlong strip in the restricted $80,000 Tri-State Futurity.

"He didn't mind the bullring too much there," said Capuano.

Fogelsonger was aboard for that race, and has ridden the colt in 5 of his 7 starts. He was there for Cherokee's Boy maiden win at Pimlico on Sept. 13, and also guided him to victory in Pimlico's $95,000 Nursery for statebreds on Sept. 21.

Comic Truth earned a free berth into the Delta Jackpot for his Lafitte win. He also earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure, which is one of the top last-race figures in Saturday's race.

He breaks from post 8 on Saturday, the same post he had for the Lafitte.

Comic Truth earlier this year won the $40,000 Pioneer by more than six lengths at Louisiana Downs. He also romped by 13 3/4 lengths in the $50,000 Lafayette at Evangeline Downs. He is trained by Cole Norman.

The complete Delta Jackpot field, from the rail out, is: Cherokee's Boy; Whippee, to be ridden by Ricky Faul; Worker Man, Casey Lambert; Shawklit Man, Corey Lanerie; Poppa's Plug, Guy Smith; Outta Here, Kent Desormeaux; Corrizo Creek, Jeff Faul; Comic Truth, Jamie Theriot; Mr. Decatur, Donnie Meche; and Winning Fans, with Delta leading rider Steve Bourque.

The approximate post time for the race is 10:05 p.m. Central.
