Miss Temple City, daughter of Temple City, earned her third Grade 1 victory of the year in Sunday's Matriarch.

Young sire Temple City enjoyed a highlight weekend with a Grade 1 double on the Del Mar turf. The Spendthrift Farm stallion was represented by Miss Temple City, who won the closing-day Matriarch Stakes after Annals of Time had taken the Hollywood Derby on the penultimate day of the meet.

Temple City, a son of Dynaformer, raced as a homebred for Spendthrift. He is out of a half-sister to the farm’s flagship sire, Malibu Moon. The horse scored his own biggest victory at Del Mar, taking the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap and setting a track record for 1 1/2 miles on the all-weather surface. He placed in three other graded stakes in California, including a runner-up effort, beaten a head, in the Grade 1 Hollywood Turf Cup. That was his career finale before joining the stallion roster at Spendthrift in Kentucky.

Miss Temple City is the most accomplished runner for her sire. The Matriarch was the third Grade 1 victory of the season for the millionaire, who defeated males in the Maker’s 46 Mile and Shadwell Turf Mile, both at Keeneland.

Annals of Time became Temple City’s second Grade 1 winner, as he posted his first stakes victory in just his fourth career start. In addition to his Grade 1 duo, Temple City is represented by Grade 2 winners Bolo and Startup Nation; Grade 3 winner Pricedtoperfection, a full sister to Miss Temple City; and stakes winners Saratoga Heater, Papacoolpapacool, and Temple Fur.
