Tellike sets up for closer Olmosta

Six evenly matched fillies and mare will clash in the $50,000 Tellike Stakes, the feature and the first of 10 live races at Evangeline Downs. First post is 6:20 p.m. Central.

Olmosta, a multiple stakes-winning Texas-bred filly who defeated fellow statebreds in the JHF Stallion Stakes at Lone Star in her last start, makes a rare trip outside her home state for the Tellike. Trained by Andrew Konkoly, the 4-year-old Olmosta has won 8 of 25 starts, including the Fiesta Mile and the New Braunfels Stakes against open company last fall at Retama Park.

The overabundance of early speed in the Tellike should be an advantage for the late-running Olmosta.

Indigo Girl, the winner of a pair of stakes at the Delta Downs meeting earlier this year, was third in her most recent start in the Lagniappe Lady Sprint at Fair Grounds in late March. The 5-year-old Indigo Girl appears to possess the best early speed.

Trainer Steve Asmussen will be represented in the Tellike by Ada's Dream, who seeks to reverse some rather marginal recent form, including a seventh-place finish behind Indigo Girl in the Mademoiselle Stakes at Delta in early March.
