Teagues Fight returns at Northlands

Teagues Fight will try to get back on track when he tackles a solid field of older sprinters going 6 1/2 furlongs in Wednesday's featured race at Northlands Park. The $40,000 optional claimer attracted eight horses, and the main players appear to be Diamond Doc, Rapid'n Ready, and possibly Teagues Fight.

Trained by Doug MacDonald, Teagues Fight is easily the top money earner in the field with $555,343. Until last year, Teagues Fight won at least two stakes races a year since starting his career as a 2-year-old at Stampede Park in 2005. He peaked as a 5-year-old, winning five added-money events in 2008. He only started twice last year, however, finishing second behind Diamond Doc in the Sales Stakes and then fourth as the 9-5 favorite in the Spangled Jimmy last July. MacDonald wasn't sure how Teagues Flight would run Wednesday.

"He's been off for close to a year, and I haven't really pushed him too hard," MacDonald said. "He might need a race. Time will tell if he's going to be the same kind of horse he was in the past."

Diamond Doc and Rapid'n Ready both have excellent speed and whoever wins the early battle could win the race.

Rapid'n Ready is coming off of a front-running win in a $30,000 claiming race June 5. Trained by Jim Meyaard, Rapid'n Ready won four races at Northlands in 2009.
