Teagues Fight has two options

Email

EDMONTON, Alberta - Teagues Fight is the biggest name among 63 Alberta-breds nominated to the seven stakes worth a total of $400,000 on Fall Classic Day here Sept. 27. And, Teagues Fight's trainer, Doug MacDonald, kept his options open by paying up the 5-year-old gelding to both the Red Diamond Express and the Alberta Breeders' Handicap.

MacDonald gets the opportunity to view the weights and his expected foes before deciding whether to sprint 6 1/2 furlongs in the $50,000 Express, which drew 12 nominees, or route in the 1 1/16-mile, $75,000 Breeders', which attracted just six hopefuls.

Teagues Fight will be highweighted in both handicaps, and just as surely favored in either spot. His main rival in the sprint would be defending champion Cool Synsation, while Arthurlooksgood ships in from Assiniboia Downs to defend his title in the Breeders'.

The two juvenile races are both scale-weight events at one mile. Rock Creek Bobby and Joan's Remark top the $50,000 Alberta Premier's Futurity, while Jazzy Song and Fun Runner lead the $50,000 Sturgeon River.

Bears Artiste, Briars Flash, and Spicy Candy head 12 3-year-old fillies for the $50,000 Alberta Oaks, a scale-weight race at one mile.

Cool Ventura tops seven nominees to the Beaufort, a scale-weight stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles.

The $75,000 Distaff, a handicap at 1 1/16 miles, attracted just five older fillies and mares, headed up by Banjo Babe.
