TCA to host select stallion season auction Jan. 5

The Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) will host its 23rd annual select stallion season auction Saturday, Jan. 5 at the Keeneland Entertainment Center in Lexington, Ky.

The cocktail party-style event begins at 6:30 p.m. Eastern with hors d'oeuvres and dinner, with the stallion season auction scheduled to begin at 8:15 p.m. The Belmont Child Care Association will be honored with the TCA Industry Service Award during the event, while Frank Stronach will be honored with the TCA Leadership Award.

The select auction will feature seasons to 21 stallions, including Speightstown, Smart Strike and Malibu Moon, all of whom finished in the top 10 on the general sires list by progeny earnings for 2012. Harlan's Holiday, who established a North American record for 2-year-old earnings in a single year in 2012, will have a season auctioned off, as will first-year stallions Bodemeister and Shackleford.

Completing the list are Arch, Broken Vow, Congrats, Curlin, Elusive Quality, English Channel, Exchange Rate, First Samurai, Gio Ponti, Kitten's Joy, Macho Uno, Medaglia d'Oro, More Than Ready, Quality Road and Super Saver.

The live auction for select stallion seasons will be preceded by a telephone auction from Thursday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. The majority of TCA's seasons will be sold during this event.

In addition to the stallion seasons, other auction items will include a weekend stay in the WinStar Farm guest house; a Triple Crown ticket package; and a sports package featuring tickets to the Breeders’ Cup, a NASCAR Nationwide Series Race, Keeneland Race Course and the Indianapolis 500.
