England’s Tattersalls auction house has tweaked the 2012 schedule for its major yearling auction, the October sale, and will start the sale one day earlier than originally planned.
The three-part auction will now open its Book 1 portion on Tuesday, Oct. 9, rather than on Oct. 10. Book 1 will run through Thursday, Oct. 11. The company also has added one session to the auction’s second segment, Book 2, which will take place Monday, Oct. 15, through Thursday, Oct. 18. Tattersalls originally had planned for Book 2 to begin on Oct. 16. Book 3, the final portion of the October sale, will take place as previously announced on Friday, Oct. 19.
The changes came about due to increased entries, particularly in Book 2, Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said. “We received almost 15 percent more entries for our October yearling sale this year, which is a huge tribute to the sale but does present challenges as to how best to accommodate the greater numbers,” Mahony said.
Mahony said he expects Book 2 to have more than 1,000 yearlings. Last year, Book 2 cataloged 833 yearlings.
