Tattersalls: Teofilo colt leads Guineas Breeze Up Sale
A colt by European champion Teofilo sold for about $179,800 to lead Tattersalls’ Guineas Breeze Up and Horses in Training sale, held Friday at the auction company’s complex in Newmarket, England.
Tattersalls reported 120 lots sold for total receipts of about $4,513,270 (2,761,000 guineas). This marked a 14 percent rise compared with the 2012 sale, when 104 sold for about $3,946,660. The average price of $37,600 declined one percent compared with last year, and the median dropped 10 percent to $22,800.
Blandford Bloodstock purchased the sale topper from the consignment of Ireland’s Clenagh Castle Stud. The 2-year-old colt is out of the winning Shahrastani mare Caraiyma, who has produced five winners from 10 starters, including Group 1 winner Caradak and stakes-placed Carallia and Caraman. It is the family of Group 1 winner Margot Did and Group 3 winner Cajarian.
Teofilo, a 9-year-old son of leading international sire Galileo, received the Cartier Award as Europe’s champion juvenile colt of 2006. He now stands at Darley’s KIldangan Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland, for about $45,900 (35,000 euros).
