Tattersalls sessions show gains

EmailA pair of yearlings brought $642,600 each to top the Book 2 portion of the Tattersalls October yearling sales in Newmarket, England. The two-day Book 2 auction ended Wednesday with gains in all categories.

Wednesday's top yearling was a half-sister by Nayef to Italian Group 1 winner Imperial Dancer that Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum's Shadwell Estate bought from Trickledown Stud. Trickledown consigned the filly on behalf of the Strange Family Partnership. The filly's auction price was 300,000 guineas.

At Tuesday's opening session, an Oasis Dream filly out of Jackie's Opera brought the same amount. Irish-based trainer David Wachman outbid Shadwell for the filly, who was consigned by Whitehall Stud.

The two sessions grossed about $51,209,865 from the sale of 473 yearlings, resulting in an average price of about $108,266 and a median of about $74,970. The gross and average realized double-digit gains of 18 percent and 15 percent, respectively. The median increased 3 percent.

The final portion of the sale was to run Thursday through Saturday.- Glenye Cain Oakford
