Tattersalls makes change to October yearling sale schedule

Tattersalls will add an additional day to Book 2 of its October yearling sale due to high consignor demand.

As a result, the sale will begin with Book 1 on Tuesday, October 8, a day earlier than was originally scheduled, in Newmarket, England. Book 1 will be held October 8-10, while Book 2 will now span four days, from October 14-17. The Book 3 section will continue as usual on October 18, while the fourth and final book will be held on October 31 and November 1.

"The Tattersalls October yearling sale is the preferred option for British and Irish breeders and the demand for places is a massive tribute to the sale,” said Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony. “It was our intention to have three days for both Books 1 and 2 but, as last year, [but] Book 2 will need to be a four-day sale to accommodate the number of entries.

“The same format at the 2012 Tattersalls October yearling sale produced unprecedented levels of turnover and we are confident that the date changes are in the interests of both vendors and purchasers alike,” Mahony continued. “The extra day in Book 2 will allow us to catalog very manageable numbers on each day and provide the optimum viewing time for prospective purchasers in all three books."
