Tattersalls changes fall schedule

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Tattersalls auction house in Newmarket, England, announced Tuesday that it will alter its fall sales schedule in 2003.

The company will move its boutique Houghton yearling sale one week earlier than currently scheduled, giving it a new place on Wednesday, Sept. 24, and Thursday, Sept. 25, in 2003.

Tattersalls also will reschedule its October yearling sale to Tuesday, Sept. 30, through Saturday, Oct. 4. The Autumn yearling sale, generally held in the last week of October, will follow the October yearling sale and will become a second division of the October yearling auction.

The company also will hold its Tattersalls (Ireland) September yearling sale a week earlier than usual, starting Tuesday, Sept. 16.

"We have felt for a long time that we have been squeezing too many major sales into too few days, and the changes will allow us much greater flexibility in both the long and short term," Edmond Mahony, chairman of Tattersalls, said in a statement.

"The decision of Newmarket Racecourse to change the Cambridgeshire meeting from four to three days presented the ideal opportunity to rearrange."
