Tattersalls catalogs 166 for Craven breeze-up sale

Tattersalls has catalogued 166 2-year-olds in training for its Craven breeze-up sale, to be held April 16 and 17.

A pre-sale under tack show will be held April 15 at Newmarket's Rowley Mile, followed by the two-day sale in Newmarket. The catalog represents a reduction of nine percent from last year, when 182 juveniles were cataloged.

Standouts in the catalog include a daughter of stellar international sire Galileo, the only offering by the stallion in the auction. The filly, consigned by Oak Tree Farm, is a half-sister to Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire.

U.S.-based stallions with entrants in the catalog include popular young commercial sire War Front, whose sons Declaration Of War and War Command were Group 1 winners in Europe last year; and perennial leading sire Giant's Causeway. They each have two juveniles cataloged, while 2013 leading North American general sire Kitten's Joy and first-crop sires Blame and Lookin At Lucky have one each in the book.

Last year's sale finished with gains in gross receipts and average price as an Elusive Quality colt sold for 760,000 guineas ($1,219,660 at that date's exchange rate), a record for a European breeze-up sale.
