Tanta Suerte runs down favorite in Las Madrinas

Under a cool ride by David Flores, Tanta Suerte ($5.60) reeled in 6-5 favorite Allswellthatnswell in deep stretch to win the $97,000 Las Madrinas Handicap for fillies and mares on Friday at Fairplex Park.

The 2 1/2-length win by Tanta Suerte was the 58th Fairplex stakes win by all-time leader Flores, and the first stakes win since December for trainer Laura de Seroux.

It was the first win in five U.S. starts for Tanta Suerte, a Group 1 winner imported from Chile who was compromised last out when she was hard-sent on a blistering pace at Del Mar. Friday, Flores rated Tanta Suerte behind the fast pace of 46.28 seconds and 1:11.01 set by Allswellthatnswell, took aim into the stretch, and drew clear in the final yards to win in 1:44.96. It was the slowest Las Madrinas in 20 years. I Can See finished third.
