Tanika in finale for Haynes

CALGARY, Alberta - Tanika, Calendar Girl, and Forest Huntress are the co-highweights at 119 pounds in Sunday's $75,000 Penny Ridge at Stampede Park.

The one-mile Penny Ridge drew a field of nine 3-year-old fillies and highlights the final day of this 50-day meeting.

Tanika captured the one-mile Lilac here May 27 in handy fashion but faces a more formidable challenge on Sunday afternoon. A Kentucky-bred by Orientate, Tanika will be the sentimental favorite, as she will be the last horse saddled by trainer Rod Haynes, who is retiring following a riding and training career spanning five decades.

Tanika's bold move at the quarter pole carried her to victory in the Lilac, but shippers Calendar Girl and Forest Huntress arrive with imposing credentials.

Calendar Girl easily defeated Tanika in the six-furlong Mount Royal before trying top fillies without success in the Selene at Woodbine.

Trainer Terry Jordan returns to Alberta with Calendar Girl, a Kentucky-bred who set a stakes record of 1:10 in the Mount Royal.

Tanika and Calendar Girl drew posts 2 and 3, respectively, and both figure to gain good stalking positions behind the likely pacesetter, Forest Huntress, who was flown in from California for this engagement.

Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer is sending out Forest Huntress in search of some black type and has enlisted leading rider Quincy Welch.
