Tango Run moved to the head of her statebred division with a victory in the Miss Ohio Stakes at Thistledown on July 22, 2017.

Tango Run moved to the head of her statebred division as she remained unbeaten with a win in the $75,000 Miss Ohio Stakes for Ohio-registered juvenile fillies on Saturday at Thistledown.

Tango Run ($3.60), who is trained by William Cowans, was sent away as a heavy favorite in her stakes bow off a 6 1/2-length debut win last month at Thistledown.

Summit Point, who had finished second to Tango Run in that maiden before bouncing back to win her next start, was sent away as the second choice in the Miss Ohio. She got first jump out of the gate, breaking sharply from the rail under Agustin Bracho and establishing command through an opening quarter of 22.88 on a muddy, sealed track.

Tango Run, under regular rider Rex Stokes III, was full of run and looking for a seam as she stalked that pace in third and inside of horses. She found that running room when Summit Point attempted to kick on with the race around the far turn and drifted outward slightly in the process. Tango Run quickly scooted into the opening on the rail to take the lead turning for home, and the outcome was never in doubt from there. Under steady hand urging from Stokes, she motored through the lane to win by 2 3/4 lengths, completing the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06.88.

Count de Loot closed to nab second by 1 1/4 lengths over Summit Point.
