Tampa: Grab Bag sharp off layoff

Tampa Bay Downs
Grab Bag wins the 21st running of the $60,000 Manatee Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Grab Bag made her first start since last May a good one when she ran down 3-5 favorite Ebony Breeze to score a one-length victory in the $60,000 Manatee Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs.

Ridden by Tommy Turner for trainer Tom Skiffington, the 6-year-old Grab Bag ($17) was making her first start since finishing third to Secret Request in the 1 1/16-mile Cut the Charm Stakes last spring at Calder. She had been training well at Palm Meadows and was up to the task in the seven-furlong Manatee, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:24.22.

Ebony Breeze was easily second, 3 3/4 lengths ahead of Habiboo with early pacesetter Diablosangeleyes finishing fourth.

It was Grab Bag's sixth win in 13 career starts and boosted her career earnings to $227,350.
