Tampa Bay: Wait Til Dawn overcomes trouble in Suncoast

OLDSMAR, Fla. - Favored Wait Til Dawn overcame a bit an eventful trip to run down leader Ciguaraya late and come away with a half-length win in $100,000 Suncoast Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs.

Ridden by Javier Castellano and trained by Todd Pletcher, Wait Til Dawn stalked the pace in the mile and 40-yard race for six furlongs, then had to check up over heels and swing off the rail turning for home while looking for a place to run. Once clear, Wait Til Dawn rallied outside and caught Ciguaraya, who had zigged and zagged through the stretch while battling for the lead and held second.

Wait Til Dawn, owned by Michael Tabor, covered the distance in 1:40.58. She returned $4.40.

Ciguaraya finished two lengths to the good of pacesetter Melrose Woods, who finished third, with Force de La Nature fourth.
